How Often Do You Do It?

By Ashlee Durand.

How often do you do it? By doing it, I mean change your clean and change your sheets – what were you thinking?! In our house it is every single week, I know some people think that it is excessive. But just wait until I tell you the reasons why……

We are in our beds a lot, although those with kids not as often as we would like. We spend on average 49 to 60 plus hours a week in bed. With our day to day living, no matter how clean we think we are, we leave all sorts of icky things in our bedding. From sweat, dirt, grime, dust, food (thanks kids) and oils, just to name a few. Did you know all of these things can contribute to allergies, breakouts and asthma flare ups? Just typing this is making me want to go and wash my bedding.

I believe because we often can’t see the buildup of these things in our beds, or we are so tired when we get into bed, we tend to not give it as much thought. It’s easy to see the dirty dishes piling up, the never-ending clothes washing, the long lawns. These tasks we get done frequently. But when it comes to washing our bedding, it can be easy to just forget about.

It is recommended that you wash your bedding at least once a week, but in some cases every 3-4 days. Particularly more so if you have pets that sleep in bed with you.

With all of that said, here are my tips to keep your bedding fresh. I swear by Bamboo Haus 100% Bamboo Sheets. Once you have tried bamboo, you won’t go back! These bad boys are earth friendly, toxin free, dust mite and odour resistant, antibacterial, thermoregulating to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter, low allergy and most importantly they give you extreme comfort. You simple do not get all of these benefits from another type of fabric.

I recommend picking a day of the week and making that your fresh sheet day – it is Sunday at ours. Once you get into a routine of washing your sheets weekly, it becomes second nature. I also recommend giving your mattress a clean monthly. This can be done using day to day products you have in your home. Mix some bicarbonate soda (otherwise known as bicarb) with a few drops of essential oils of your choice. Sprinkle it on your mattress and leave for 10-30 minutes. Then simply vacuum it up and put your fresh clean bedding on. If you have a fabric bedframe or headboard, ensure you vacuum around the base and the headboard to get rid of any dust. You can then add your Bamboo Haus Mattress Topper for extreme comfort, which comes with an easily removable cover for washing every couple of weeks.

These few handy tips will keep your bedroom feeling fresh. Also is there any better feeling than getting into bed with clean sheets?
